Mozart-Wohnhaus, Salzburg

3.1
#5 of 21 in Museums in Salzburg
See Mozart-Wohnhaus, where the famous composer and his family lived from 1773 to 1787--and where Mozart wrote his numerous pieces. Destroyed by a bomb in World War II, the home was reconstructed and opened for visitors in 1996. Explore the exhibits, walk where Mozart walked, and see a piano and a violin that he played. Learn about different phases of his life and work through photos, audio guides, displays, and letters written to and by Mozart. You'll also see the rooms of his father and sister, along with some personal effects. • This is quite interesting but not a huge amount there for the price and you are not allowed to take photos. There are some interactive items at the end. Lots of stairs inside the place  more »
  • Some musical instruments, some photos, some letters... The background is not interesting, without any set design. A good documentary on Arte will better replace this visit!

  • The place where Mozart lived. Take a tour of this building is underway with audiopruvodcem, which unfortunately is not in English. The exhibition is very interactively conceived, in addition to information about Mozart's life and his family, you can listen to a variety of Mozart's compositions. At the end you can do 3 interactive kvizi, about what you learned. The entrance is to the Salzburg card free again and the earlier you start the better, we came around a half 10 and nearly no queue when we koncili a tour around 11, became the queue up outside!

  • It was pretty amazing to see the original instruments, music notes and letters of Mozart. It was interesting to see how tall he was. Everybody is given an audio guide, so it was very quiet, which was nice. No place for kids. I think they could have arranged the displays and audio guide little better. There were lots to read and listen. Some are just music, so could listen while you read the sign. Wished the numbers would say whether it's music or guide.
  • There are nothing too special about this place. They only display instruments from Mozart time if you are interested and Mozart music pieces. If you have Salzburg card and time you can enter it for free but I would not pay to enter this place.
  • A true piece and place of musical history 😀. To imagine that one of the greatest musical legends once walked the same rooms. Sit down for a few moments and let the history seep in.
  • The Wohnhaus has more artefacts on Mozart's family than his own life... but I like the Getburtshaus where more displays and descriptions on Mozart's path
  • It was ok.. not as big as i tought.. but overall is ok

Where to stay in Salzburg

There’s no better area to stay in the city where Mozart was born than the historical city center, a World Heritage Site. Salzburg's hub offers comfortable accommodations nestled between a rich array of sights. The Salzach River cuts directly through town, dividing the city into east and west. Look for accommodations in the Altstadt, tucked in between the river and the city’s mountain, Monchsberg. For budget-minded travelers, try a centrally located youth hostel or small hotel. If price isn’t an issue, splurge on Austrian luxury in an upscale hotel.
