Mozarts Geburtshaus, Salzburg

3.4
Learn about the details of Mozart's childhood and his relationship with his family at Mozarts Geburtshaus. Exhibited instruments, documents, portraits, and family letters reveal his passionate interest in music--opera in particular. Start from the birth room on the third floor, where Mozart came into the world on January 27, 1756. Do not miss such rarities as his childhood violin or the clavichord upon which he composed "The Magic Flute." See the striking unfinished portrait of the composer that his brother-in-law painted two years before Mozart's death. Breathe in the atmosphere of the age on the first floor among original furniture from that time. • Including in Salzburg card! Or you will feel the price a little bit expensive...! Anyway it still was a not bad or...must visit place!  more »
  • Although none of us are musical, we think of Mozart in the thought of Pittsburgh, so we decided to go in and we didn't think the visitors were much more than that, and it was basically a little museum, with Mozart's Codex and Life Stories, and a souvenir shop, They should be very happy if they buy little things and go back to their friends who send music.

  • Good place to visit, to know more about the music prodigy Mozart. But confusing to enter though, as the building looks almost the same from the backside where there is a restaurant located. You cannot enter from that side and they didn't put any indication to the right entrance, which is in the front. I visited it freely with the Salzburg card (25 €, worth the money). Otherwise it costs about 11 €. I wouldn't say it's a great value for that money. You cannot take photos inside. Crowded when I went there. Lots of information about Mozart's life, family and his contribution to classical music. Interesting stuff. They even have a few films and also interactive stuff. Overall it was good.
  • Saying you've been there is a nice thing, but the building looks to be commercialized into a museum. Not much if you're just passing it on the street. Did not attend the museum, although other reviews said it's mostly entertaining for the historic significance and not the content.
  • It was thrilling and humbling to visit where Mozart was born. The building is well preserved and has been turned into a museum showcasing his old piano and history. I'm a great fun of his music, loved playing his piano pieces. The street to his house is quite packed with tourists, plus shops selling Mozart souveniors! Must visit if you're in Austria.
  • Very disappointing. I was very excited to visit a Mozart Museum but it was a huge disappointment. There's not really much to see, no interactive displays, nothing!
  • It's not definitely a must go place, but for those who loves his history and life, you can try a visit. The place is small and the walking is very limited due to the number of visitors.
