#12 of 25 in Museums in Salzburg

The Museum der Moderne Mönchsberg is picturesquely situated high above the rooftops of the old town of Salzburg and offers new, contemporary architecture for large-scale exhibitions and presentations of the museum's own holdings an international context. The museum offers an ideal setting for presentations of the museum’s own comprehensive collection and large-scale temporary exhibitions of international contemporary art.

The Museum der Moderne Rupertinum, a baroque town palace built by the archbishops, located in the immediate vicinity of Festival Hall and Cathedral precinct, has been adapted for the presentation of modern art. The two buildings of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg offer 3.000 m2 of exhibition space for thematic and monographic exhibitions of 20th and 21st centry art, as well as presentations of graphics and photography.

  • The Museum of modern art in Salzburg is an impressive structure offering to another beautiful exhibitions. In addition, the views of the city is spectacular.

  • You can access the restaurant/cafe without paying an entrance fee. The views across the City are excellent both from inside or out on the terrace in summer. We had a coffee and a cake for a reasonable...  more »
  • All right, you was there on the bottom and paid to take the elevator-and now? left Museum? I didn't, maybe it's good, but I confess I'm not too fond of modern art-I love ancient artifacts, archeological and historic but modern art know no-well, at the top, there are two interesting things besides the Museum, an outdoor area that yields photos incredible Salzburg and also the restaurant-the restaurant seems very good, but the average ticket would be very high for me (at least 30 EUR per person) so I enjoyed just vista-with the Salzburg card is included.

  • No pictures here because you are not allowed to take any. Modern art is not my cup of tea. I was bored. Simple things are called modern art. At least there was a nice view of the city from outside of the 3 floor.
  • Fantastic view of the city. It's probably a bit tough to get up. One way is to hike up the hill, another is to take the elevator up into the museum. However, without the city pass, the ticket up is a bit pricey in my opinion. The museum is nothing to shout about. Was recommended by some locals to come up here to see the view. Well, I am definitely not disappointed. There is a bar as well for anyone looking to take a break n have some beers.
  • A museum of modern art with no art in it. But, if you're looking for gherkins standing on boxes, this is your place! And for an €8 entry fee, don't expect to be able to take any photos. The gherkins on mini podiums are between you and the museum.
  • So stupid. Come from other side from the top , then you have no choice to pay for leave. You can’t go back.
  • Nice building with attractive city overview. Exibitions are also ok.
