Bokor Hill Station, Kampot

3.0
Colonial history stands out at Bokor Hill Station, a collection of buildings originally established as a luxurious mountainous retreat from the heat for Frenchmen. During its construction in the 1920s, 900 people died due to the weather and work conditions at this remote location. The Catholic church here dates back to its opening in 1925, while other structures, like the casino built in the 1960s, were added on later. This attraction has gone through periods of destruction and abandonment over time, as well as rejuvenation. Until the 1990s, it was the last stronghold of Cambodia's Communist party, Khmer Rouge, but has since been simply a tourist attraction. Put Bokor Hill Station and other Kampot attractions into our Kampot road trip site , and watch your holiday take shape.

  • not much of an attraction today. Just a restored building, not that great even, that you get to see from the outside  more »
  • I was up here for the fourth time and am still fascinated by the atmosphere on the plateau. We had perfect clear weather, so we could see the coast. But you have to be lucky. There is still a par ruins to discover, but unfortunately a lot is added by the Chinese. The old hotel has unfortunately already been rebuilt and I found it of course more beautiful than it was still a ruin. But unfortunately the whole of Cambodia is for sale, so it is only a matter of time before everything is flattened -.-

  • It used to be a place where you could feel the power of the past, a ghost hotel. Now it's been renewed and it lost its appeal. The view is still amazing.
  • Visited this place around 7 years ago. The hotel itself is an ideal filming location for horror movies and delivers some nice pictures. That being said I wouldn't visit the place without doing the trek up the mountain which definitely adds a necessary ingredient to the experience.
