One of the city's iconic landmarks, Central Market represents one of the best places to feel the pulse of the city, while you browse for souvenirs and bargain like a local. The market occupies a yellow art deco building from 1937. A huge stepped dome that covers its main hall--cool and vented even on a hot day--is its most distinctive feature. The four "arms" of the structure stretch from the four sides of the dome and are packed with stalls displaying an impressive array of goods from fresh food and clothing to gold jewelry and antique coins. We’ve been to a lot of markets in this region. Don’t see what is so great about the Central Market in Phenom Penh. It’s large, but the many of the same merchandise sold by dozens and dozens of vendors... more »
Nice market to visit when you're in the city. Pretty standard offerings compared to all other markets in SE Asia in terms of fruits, meats, clothes, accessories, replica goods, etc. Definitely make sure you try the exotic fruits here and the various coconut or sticky rice inspired foods. Everything is very cheap. Don't forget to bargain for more expensive items.
This is a popular stop for tourist. Just to see the architecture of the market itself is already great. It was built along time ago ( may be more than 70 years ago). And of course the food are all yummy. Try the grilled Squids deeply marinated with garlic leaves and their spicy sauce. And local Cambodian deserts such as pumpkin pudding, can juice, Khmer noodle.. don’t miss it. It’s cheap and fun.
