Inspect the cultural heritage of the Khmer Empire's golden era at Angkor National Museum. Opened in 2007, the museum houses a vast collection of relics that portray the ancient civilization's legends and art. The exterior may look a bit mall-like, but the museum's many galleries brim with splendor sure to impress hard-core history buffs. Inside the exhibit halls, you can examine informative displays about Angkor Wat, the rise of the Khmer Empire, and the influence of Buddhism on the local people. The museum prohibits photography and offers discounted tickets for the youngest visitors. Interesting museum with many expedition halls. A great place to find out more of the areas history. I went here after the trips to many temples, and I found this was a great way to fill in the gaps with information about the major temple sites. Entrance fee was around $12 Recommended.

This museum definitely impressed me. There is a ton of information about the religious, political and architectural history of Cambodia. I wasn't expecting it to be so large with so many exhibits. I suggest getting the audio guide. We didn't and we felt like we missed out on a lot of good information. There are some information plaques in English but no enough to make up for no guide. Also, don't go in hungry. I went in on a light breakfast not anticipating how much there was to see and ended up going too quickly at the end with the anticipation of lunch. Also there is no photography allowed, which is a huge bummer because there are so many beautiful things.
