Banteay Kdei, Siem Reap

4.6
Admire the ruins of Banteay Kdei, a late 12th-century Buddhist temple within the Angkor city complex. One of the smaller temples situated inside the massive compound, the structure was constructed under the Khmer ruler Jayavarman VII, and designed in the Bayon style, known for numerous stone decorations and elaborate carvings. Easily accessible from the area's more famous and grander attractions, Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm, the temple offers you a less crowded and peaceful setting to explore charming stone walls and courtyards. • Another great temple, one of the most picturesque and beautiful in the small circuit. This comes as welcome relief after some of the massive temples as this is a relatively easy walk around and surrounded by trees. Others have suggested coming here early or late which is sound advice, but of course, you will inevitably end up somewhere busy between 10am and 4pm so not sure how you plan for that! Photo opportunities at every turn here with proper ruins (this temple hasn't been restored like others) and it also has some large trees. Interesting carvings, some in pretty good condition and just a fun place to go and explore.
  • Amazing ruins, too much to take in in a short time. It is worth a few hours, you can get incredible pictures if you're patient, maybe exploring the perimeters of every opening. Late afternoon sunlight played well with stone reliefs
