Explore a lush urban park and a former royal garden located northwest of the city at Beihai Park (Beihai Gongyuan). Built during the 11th century, the park holds the title as one of largest gardens in China, and it houses many important historical palaces, traditional temples, and elaborate pavilions. Resting at an area of 69 hectares (171 acres), a lake covers more than half of the public area's surface with Jade Flower Island at its center. Visit a large collection of prominent structures throughout the park. Some cultural sites require an admission fee. We could see this park from the top of Jingshan park, especially its landmark white Dagoba. As it was near Jingshan park, we walked here after visiting Jingshan park. Quite nice to walk around... more »
A breathtakingly beautiful place at sunset and a stroll around was one of the highlights of my trip to Beijing. There were a substantial amount of tourists taking photos, so it can be difficult to take a good shot with your camera at these peak times. Perhaps sunrise would be quieter and a good opportunity for an iconic photo. There were some little paddlers I saw chained up at the waters edge which I assume can be used during sunny days. Well worth stopping by if you are a tourist in Beijing.
Wow. Amazing to skate on the frozen lake. And so pretty during winter.
