Moravian Karst, Blansko

#1 of 7 in Wildlife in Moravia
The Moravian Karst is a karst landscape and protected nature reserve to the north of Brno in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, located near the town of Blansko. It encompasses a number of notable geological features, including roughly 1100 caverns and gorges and covers an area of roughly 92 km². Currently, five of the cave systems, Býčí skála Cave and Stránská skála are open for public tours and exploration.
This region is also home to one of the most important single geological features in the Czech Republic, the Macocha Abyss, a gorge 138 m deep, which was formed when the ceiling of an underground cave chamber collapsed. Macocha Abyss is also the place where the Punkva River begins to run underground through the Punkva cave system, and two small pools of water are visible at the surface.
The Moravian Karst is a popular tourist attraction in the local area, and large numbers of tourists visit in the summer months. In addition to caverns, the nature preserve also contains well-marked bicycle trails and hiking paths to explore.

  • Very high level of service, no need to be ashamed to also bring guests with foreign. We were in the abyss of Macocha for the first time and it is a memorable experience. Good level of information services, humorous guides. It is important to think that if you want to explore a cave on a boat, you must book by phone or mail the date and time of entry. After confirming the time, no need to deal with anything. Just come and show the mail. The tickets will give you a turnover.

  • In the first lines of the review I want to focus on the absolutely comfortable conditions of visiting, both the cave itself and the adjacent infrastructure. Everything is made maximally convenient for people, and with children including. It fascinated the autumn nature with watercolor of its paints. The beauty of the very manifestation of the karst process can only admire the volume, scale, various angles, immersion in the cave itself, a boat tour-all leave a lasting impression. I think that it is possible to devote a trip to matochu all day long and not to guess! BE SURE to take light jackets, Windbreakers cave invigorates)))

  • Awesome. 5+ large caves can be visited and hundreds of small caves can be individually explored - if you can find them. Also nice hike trails and bike routes.
  • Nice place to visit. Don't miss
