Kostel sv. Mikuláše, Prague

4.5
An outstanding example of Baroque architecture in Central Europe, Kostel sv. Mikuláše dominates Prague's skyline with its iconic green dome. Constructed in the early decades of the 18th century, the structure replaced a Gothic church also dedicated to Saint Nicholas. The building's star attractions are its frescoes, sculptures, and a 4,000-pipe organ, reportedly played by Mozart in 1787. The ceiling frescoes, created by Johann Lukas Kracker, include an image of a Jesuit monk who, despite repeated injunctions not to do so, hid behind one of the columns and secretly watched the artist at work. Try to spot him by standing directly under the domed ceiling or by climbing to the church's viewing gallery. By using our Prague road trip planning website , you can arrange your visit to Kostel sv. • A truly beautiful building. It doesn't look amazing from the outside but once you step inside you will be blown away. The ceiling painting is as good as you'll see in the best churches in Rome and elsewhere. it would have scored a 5 star but there is a barrier stopping one go into the church to take more photos.
  • Beautiful church with really nice interior architecture and paintings. Often at 6 p.m. There will be concerts with an organ and 2 sopranos. Ticket prices are about 15 euros but it's really worth the experience. You can also just get admission without the concert at about 3 euros to explore.
