#2 of 9 in Parks in Carcassonne
Cavern features like draperies, waterfalls, and columns come to life at Gouffre Geant de Cabrespine, one of the world's largest caves open to tourists. The crystallization in the cave is varied: calcite, aragonite, and a range of colored metal oxides exist here, some of which create the famous red rooms. Also admire the iron oxide-colored rooms of bright ocher with trays and disks hanging from the ceiling, as well as the underground river carved into blue marble. • Very nice visit. This cave is impressive. I would have love it to dig deeper into the mysteries of the Earth when I was younger. The guide was a student, seasonally working there but very knowledgeable and good with storytelling. Everything is in French, is true but people, you could use a bit of the language of Hugo and Proust:) Oh, and the wine, both some good wine aged in oak barrels in the cave.
  • A great place 4-day trip wheelchair friendly and lovely scenery
