Brahma Temple, Pushkar

#1 of 9 in Historic Sites in Pushkar
Worshippers come to Brahma Temple to revere Hinduism's four-faced god of creation. Although believed to be over 2000 years old, the current marble version of the temple dates to the 14th century. As you approach by stairs, notice the distinct red pinnacle with a hamsa bird motif--its most recognizable feature. Find the Brahma's central life-size icon made of marble, which sits cross-legged in the Vishvakama form (creation of the universe aspect). See how he stares everywhere across the room with its four faces, as the goddess and consort Gayatiri sits closely to his left. Despite the fact that the nearby lake has ceremonial purposes, tourism and deforestation in the surroundings have taken a heavy toll on water quality. • The town of Pushkar is small overall, you can find the Brahma temple by looking for the red spire. The floor and walls have engravings of dedications to the deceased. +No photography allowed inside.  more »
  • In the grand scheme of temples and palaces in India, this is not the most glamorous but is definitely worth a visit. It is one of the few temples honouring Lord Brahma. We had an excellent guide...  more »

  • Nice place..good market. The only bad thing is that the people will try to cheat you for money. They will act like they are real good people and do not want your money. But they will trap you with a very systematic plan. Tip : Do not take any help from anyone...Visit the temple, visit the lake, see the market, shop, eat. Just do not respond to people who come to you saying they will help you.
  • Place would be nice to visit if not the people trying to rip you off from the money. Visit the temple one by one, don't leave shoes, don't leave luggage in shops down, don't allow anyone to start walking you around, otherwise you will be force to pay at the end for very poor service and no valuable information. Spiritual place turned into tourist trap
