#2 of 15 in Things to do in Alleghe
Monte Civetta is a prominent and major mountain of the Dolomites, in the Province of Belluno in northern Italy. Its north-west face can be viewed from the Taibon Agordino valley, and is classed as one of the symbols of the Dolomites.
The mountain is thought to have been first climbed by Simeone di Silvestro in 1855, which, if true, makes it the first major Dolomite peak to be climbed. The north-western face, with its 1,000-metre-high cliff, was first climbed in 1925 by Emil Solleder and Gustl Lettenbauer. It is historically considered the first "sixth grade" in six-tier scale of alpinistic difficulties proposed by Willo Welzenbach . Thirty years later UIAA used this as a basis for its grading system.

  • There are few words to describe the beauty of Mount Owl, with its color changes during the beautiful day at dawn and enchanting at sunset, I must definitely return, as soon as possible!

  • The exciting and strenuous crossing of years ago from the Bishop's Malga to the Tissi Refuge remains one of my most beautiful and intense memories, but also to walk a few simpler and shorter paths still allows you to get to know this amazing mountain up close and Wonderful. You can do it from the Zoldan or agordino sides, discovering its different faces. This year - as well as from Alleghe and the Zoldo Valley - we admired it climbing along the path from Malga Fontanafreda (1768 m) to Cima Fertazza (2101 m), from which you have a complete and enchanting view of the entire northwest slope, with a view on the legendary "wall of the walls" and on the small glacier of the Crystal.
