Walk the centuries-old halls of Criptoportico Forense, probably built to serve as a covered market or a walkway. The structure features three underground tunnels circumscribing a rectangular area--the entire complex once supported the forum of Augusta Praetoria, a city founded in 25 BCE by Emperor Octavian. Above the underground vaults once stood two temples dedicated to various Roman gods. Make Criptoportico Forense a part of your Aosta vacation plans using our Aosta trip planner .

Vestigia romane di enormi dimensioni, ben conservate e presentate in aree museali moderne. La struttura è particolare e inusuale. more »Roman vestiges of enormous size, well preserved and presented in modern museum areas. The structure is special and unusual.
Lo reputo un capolavoro perchè è COMPLETO nella sua complessità costruttiva, scendendo dall'ala est mi è apparso grandissimo e l'immaginazione è volata a quando nel periodo romano aveva una ricca pavi... more »I consider it a masterpiece because it is COMPLETE in its construction complexity, coming down from the east wing it appeared to me very great and the imagination flew to when in the Roman period it had a rich pavement, it had white walls illuminated by the light of small windows. It was an exabyssing of foundations that held up the upper arcades, it is amazing to realize that they still support higher weights today. The entrance is in the outdoor garden created in the 1900s. Interesting projection of the video. The forensic cryptoportic is composed of a double corridor with barrel vaults supported by pillars in blocks of tuff, when the Roman colony grew it used the cryptoportico as a cargo warehouse.
Long tunnel under the ground. Nice to visit during a heatwave. Good for people who love history and can speak Italian. No information in English.
Cool place, nice atmosphere. Great historical background. Interesting movie about the place
