#2 of 13 in Museums in Assisi
Fronted by towering Corinthian columns, Roman Forum and Archaeological Museum showcases ancient classical architecture and houses a small interior church. Stop by the grand temple, wedged in between more modern Italian buildings, and marvel at its solid construction and pristine facade, preserved intact from its creation during the first century BCE. Make your way through the stately row of pillars to the church within and you'll be greeted by the ornate decorations, rich paintings, and shimmering gold accents that adorn the walls and ceiling. This inner section was refurbished and modified during the Baroque period in the 17th century. • The entrance to "Underground Assisi, that is, what remains of the ancient Roman forum, is a few tens of meters from the Church of St. Mary above Minerva that stands in the main square of the town. Under the current decking stood the hole and the various workshops. The route is short (no more than 15 minutes) and basically follows a section of the original pavement of the hole. The material on display is made up of several funeral urns, epigraphs and some sarcophagi. The full entrance fee costs 5 euros. You can make a cumulative ticket to visit the civic gallery and the Rock.

  • Expected a bit more. The museum is more of an excavation with some added information.
  • Amazing Ran remnants. We we're able to touch the walls and tombstones that Romans built amd carved. Fabulous little museum, a complete gem. The museum even housed Etruscan Urns! A time machine type of museum. Only 5 euros
