Serrai di Sottoguda, Rocca Pietore

#2 of 11 in Things to do in Rocca Pietore
Board the little train to Serrai di Sottoguda canyon and enjoy a guided tour through this picturesque gorge. Running for 2 km (1.25 mi) and formed by an earthquake and water erosion, the canyon offers year-round hiking and nature activities. In winter, when frozen waterfalls hang from rock walls, the canyon takes on a different kind of magic--ice-climbers often come here to tackle the steep walls. If you're not in the mood for a long hike, you can take the Serrai's tourist train from Sottoguda to Malga Ciapela, a small church within the gorge. • Returning from the village of Subguda (BL), I could not help but make a stop, to the Serrai di Sottoguda, in Val Vettorina, closed as a result of the disaster caused by storm Vaia last autumn, sending back disheartened by the current vision, in which it is. Therefore, my mind, recalled the pleasant memories of the visit made in summer 2018, of which I attach the photos, to keep the memory vivid, in the hope that it can be restored as soon as possible, in the best way, for openness to the public. I also spontaneously began to reflect on the duality of Mother Nature, which on the one hand manages to fascinate us with wonderful things, such as The Canyon of the Serrai of Subguda, which is counted among the natural wonders of the Agorodino and the Dolomites, to the feet of the Marmolada, and it is a striking gorge carved into the rock with walls over 100 meters high, with various waterfalls, and on the other, with its great destructive force, which manages to erase unique and wonderful environmental scenarios, not easy to create.

  • The Serrai is located in the mountainous group of Marmolada, between Trento and Belluno. These mountains are the only unesco World Heritage Sites in the world

  • Stars are difficult, because, Regrettably, this marvelous walk through the Serrai has had be closed as a result of the catastrophic damage caused by the storm last October. All efforts are being taken to repair the surrounding area, and there are various fundings starting both locally and from further afield to repair the Serrai to it's formar magical splendour.
  • Out of order. Destroyed by big water
