  • The inside of the church is lavishly decorated in marble and gold and paintings. It is extraordinary to find such a display of wealth in a small church in a small town. It was a cold day when we visit...  more »
  • The Cathedral of St. Michael, main religious building ⛪ of San Candido, summed up in its entirety the beauty and sophistication of this beautiful town in the Dolomites. Built in Romanesque style in 1200, was rebuilt during the 18th century in the new Baroque/Rococo. Upon entering you really has the sense of AWE, of triumph and grandeur; so much so that at the time the Baroque's motto was "from the wonder", which is aimed to surprise viewers; you are immediately struck by the walls of a white shiny gold ornaments and covering almost all niches and frames. The campanile, churches characteristic onion shaped dirndls, dominates San Candido and is all that remains of the original Cathedral. Coming from the outside, the view of the Duomo is obstructed by a large alberoal the center of the Avenue, but as soon as you exceed the latter, the facade is revealed in all its beauty: a white marble shines thanks to golden statues located in niches, that the Sun blind visitors ☀ ️, as if to prove with the triumph of light the omnipotence of our Lord.

  • This Church, located in the heart of San Candido, is very beautiful. At First It was a Romanesque church, later in 1735 it was remodelled and became one of the highest examples of Tyrolean Baroque. The façade is bright (because of the white), and it is beautiful to see how this façade, so Baroque (statues in the niches, arched windows and a cross crowned by angels) is highlighted by the backdrop of the Dolomites. Internally It is a single nave, with central plan. It is a spectacle, the interior is very beautiful, full of details; Who comes to visit it, is immersed in a pleasant climate, almost spring. To visit.

  • Admirable Church because of the limosity, both of the exterior almost exclusively white, and of the interior where dominate very soft colors (red of the stucco on the pillars of the walls, the gold of the frames of the canvases and the pale green that predominates on the ceiling). The style is baroque Alto Adige, common to many churches in the Valley Pusteria. Note A beautiful pulpit decorated with gold fris on the left wall, as well as the luminous frescoes on the vaults of the ceiling.
