St Mark's Campanile, Venice

4.6
Overlooking the city's famous lagoon, St Mark's Campanile is one of the Venice's most recognizable symbols. Originally constructed as a lighthouse, this 99 m (323 ft) tall bell tower stands alone in one corner of St. Mark's Square. The tower's simple form has a fluted brick shaft topped by a belfry housing five bells. A pyramidal spire with a golden weathervane in the form of the archangel Gabriel caps the tower. Constructed in the ninth century on ancient Roman foundations, the bell tower underwent a massive reconstruction after a sudden collapse in 1902. Once the site of Galileo's observatory, the tower now features an elevator for easy access to the top and views of the lagoon and distant Alps. • Admission 8 euros is a person over 18 years old can take the elevator to the top floor. March is still cold.

  • A unique experience, the ascent up the lift, then you open the breathtaking view of the entire lagoon and vibrant life under you, completely different views

  • Upload if it makes a good day, if it is a cloudy day or with fog you will not see anything, the price in my opinion is expensive €8 only up the elevator, there is no option to climb on foot. The view from the 4 cardinal points is worthwhile. There are tail.

  • I paid 8€ and it was worth 8€ - no more, no less. Good panoramic view of the city, but it’s a very small space and it’s packed with people. You spend most of your time just waiting for people to take their pictures so that you can look outside. I was here in April 2018 and waited maybe 15 minutes in line. I can’t imagine the lines here in high season. BUT, given my experience - I definitely wouldn’t wait more than 20 minutes to go up this thing. There are better uses of your time in Venice, in my opinion. P.S. stairs are not accessible. You go up via elevator.
  • Super cool. Go if you can and you don't have a problem with heights. You'll get a spectacular view of Venice. Its usually pretty crowded at the top but not so much that you can't get a ton of excellent photos. I've never been up during the bell ringing but beware! I've been told its very loud. Try to get in early. A line to go up develops in busy times over the day and by mid day it goes way back into the piazetta. $6 euro per person in fall of 2017
  • After lunch, you should have 1hr more to enjoy; we had to wait for 45 min. and overlooked Venice for 15 min. Really beautiful view! Be careful of early closing(maybe 1630?).
  • There's no stairs - lift only. It's convenient, but leads to queues for enter/exit. The view from the top is ok, nothing spectacular.
  • We didn’t wait too long to get in, luckily as it had started to rain. The view from the top is amazing! We were unlucky (or lucky depending on your POV) to be standing right next to the bells when they rang out, pretty awesome but effing loud!
