Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu, Hakone-machi

#1 of 14 in Historic Sites in Hakone-machi
Tucked away on the forested shores of Lake Ashi, Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu stands as one of the nation's major Shinto sites. Founded originally in the 8th century, the complex includes buildings that date back to the 1660s. The grounds feature an array of wooden structures with swooping rooftops and a distinctive black-and-red color scheme, all surrounded by dense cedar woods. Note that many dragons and dragon-like creatures from Japanese mythology adorn the interiors of the shrine's buildings, intended to protect the site from evil spirits. Don't miss the entryway of the main shrine--this red gate, just offshore in the waters of the lake, represents one of the most iconic scenes anywhere in the country. • Located in Hakone shrine rooms. Time without having any access to the Kuzuryu shrine and lame people pray here is good. DW is a recently new can pray in a serene mood. Also in front of Hall is a motif of Kuzuryu.
