Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Kamakura

4.2
Welcoming over two million visitors during just one major holiday alone, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine remains one of Japan's most popular religious sites. The complex contains both a Hachiman shrine (blending elements of Shinto and Buddhism) and a Tendai Buddhist temple, with examples of traditional Japanese architecture. The complex once boasted a 1000-year-old ginkgo tree, destroyed in the 2010 typhoon. An old stone stairway still stands as one of the site's major features. • Because I went on a rainy day, I was not able to go around everything, and the stairs are steep, so i don't recommend rainy days for older people. I saw a lot of tourists from overseas enjoying the English lottery. When you come to Kamakura, it is recommended to visit here first.

  • It is a symbol of Kamakura that a splendid mountain gate is wonderful. There is a taste whenever you come, but be careful in summer because there is no sun shadow in the long mountain path. There is also a rest area in the precincts, so it's a good idea to go around slowly while taking ice cream and water.
