Ikaho Stone Steps, Shibukawa

3.4
Walk up the historic Ikaho Stone Steps, a 300 m (984 ft) long commercial and recreational street. Heading up through the center of the mountain town, the staircase has 365 steps in total and acts as the historic center, dating back to the Edo period. With both bustling souvenir shops and restful "ryokan" (traditional Japanese inns with spa facilities and restaurants), you can take the street at your own pace to find that experience that suits you. Stop off at the midpoint of the stairs to see the old center of town, still imbued with traces of days gone by. • I was not a jerk, but it's hard for the elderly. It is hard when it is a plan without the dinner of the inn because it is only closing at 16 o'clock including the restaurant.

  • It was rare to see many inns, playgrounds and souvenir shops on the left and right sides of the stone steps. I heard that the 365-step staircase is filled with a wish that the stone-dan street of Ikaho will be bustling for 365 days. The view was good even if there was an height difference of 80 meters and it was not from the top. There are a lot of ducks decorated in the shrine near the stone-step hot water at the bottom, and it is a strange feeling. It is said that the tourist leaves the freebie gotten in the playground when hearing it. The playground seems to be able to shoot and pinball in a retro feeling. Unfortunately, there were few tourists during the daytime of the off-season weekdays, and I felt a little lonely. It's more interesting to have a fun atmosphere when you're walking around, like a tourist weekend, where a lot of people come and go to play games and buy souvenirs.

  • I stayed there for 20-25 mins only because I was waiting for the bus to go to Mount Haruno... I heard that there were 365 steps to get to top so I challenged myself to reach the top and get back to the bus stop before the bus arrived! I started at 3:17pm... 3:21pm I was at the top! Ok I admit it, I ran out of breath but I still made it! 😁 There was a small temple at the top but closed for renovations. On my way down, I visited few stores where they have cute souvenirs and others Japanese delicacies. You can also notice some windows on the ground where you can see the hot water flowing for spa. Unless you go at the spa, there's not too much to do there but it still à nice place
  • Hot spring stands middle of this steps and you can find the shrine of hot spring.
