Onioshidashi Volcanic Park, Tsumagoi-mura

With blasted rock everywhere, Onioshidashi Volcanic Park makes a rugged landscape set against views of Mount Asama, which spawned this lava in 1783. Popular and crowded during Japanese holidays, this location provides activities for both kids and adults. Get a close-up view of the earth's insides, and learn more about the geography of volcanoes, plants, and animals in volcanic areas at the volcano museum nearby. You can even ride a simulator which will put you in the midst of a volcano. A temple dedicated to the Buddhist goddess of mercy stands in the center of the park. • Gorgeous place with interesting history. We spent about an hour and a half here and had a wonderful time. Good food and really scenic walks.
  • A great place for a walk; I went when there was a threat of rain and found the park mostly empty. It's amazing to see the many rocks, the moss on them, and the interesting formations they've made.
