Mekong River, Tha Heua

#2 of 12 in Parks in Vientiane Province
Must see · Water Body · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Hop on a slow boat and cruise Mekong River while taking in the scenic views of its green banks, interrupted by occasional sandbars and hills covered with tropical forest. The river--which crosses the boundaries of six countries--has been a major trading waterway between China and South East Asia for centuries. Visit farming and fishing villages on the riverbanks, wander through food markets selling local delicacies, such as fried locusts, and learn about the rural lifestyle from a local guide. If you decide to take a dip into the water from the shore, watch for patches of wet sand, which you can easily get stuck in. Remember to take mosquito spray or simply cover your arms and legs.
