Mosta Parish, Mosta

Learn about the German bomb that pierced the dome of Mosta Parish during World War II and failed to explode, sparing the lives of hundreds of people. See a replica of the 200 kg (660 lb) bomb in the church, which was designed by Maltese architect Giorgio de Vasse and built between the 1830s and 1860s. View the intricate carvings within the church and admire the third-largest church dome in Europe, closely based on the dome of the Pantheon in Rome. Remember to wear clothing that covers your shoulders before you enter the church, or borrow one of the scarves available at the door. The church has varying hours, so be sure to check opening hours online prior to your visit. • Worth a visit, really beautiful inside. We were lucky to witness a wedding on the day of our visit. Prepare to clime spiral staircase! For 5EUR you can access both church and bomb shelter.  more »
  • I'll write as I got. From St. Julian's (Sliema) there is a bus 202, from Bujibbe-186. The first one stops across the street from the cathedral, the second on the same side is close to it. Then both buses go to Rabbat (Mdina). If you are in those parts, keep in mind that the direction is popular. In the morning I arrived on an empty bus 202. And in an hour in the same direction (as the main purpose was the city of Mdina) The bus has not stopped-was full. Had to quickly orient, learn from the local about another bus, find a bus stop 186 and safely go further) hours of time was enough for the inspection of the cathedral (2 euros) and bomb shelter (1 euro). At the entrance to the bomb shelter for some reason no one checked the tickets. To arrive in the morning was the correct decision as in the evening from bridges it is more difficult to leave, as again passing buses return crowded.
