An imposing gilt mountain-temple with arched walls painted red, gold, and white, Mahamuni Image features the most revered Buddha image in Myanmar. Believed to have been made during Buddha's lifetime, the 3.8 m (12.5 ft) high statue sits on a tall pedestal and weighs 6.5 tons; over the ages, countless gold leaves pasted by devotees have in fact disfigured the statue. Admire its golden crown decorated with diamonds, rubies, and sapphires, and the spectacular seven-tiered roof rising above. The 18th-century temple grounds also house a museum of history of Buddhism. Mahamuni Image Reviews
最初は高僧の説法とか放送して... more »It was a bit far from the bike. When I arrived at the temple and walked the approach, there was a souvenir shop on the left and right. It seemed to sell a marble-ish Buddha image, but one shop was adjusting the hue with a white spray on the Buddha image. I thought it would be better if I bought something that my aunt actually polished outside the temple if I had to buy it. As we entered the main hall, there was a television set aside for many worshippers. At first, I thought it was a high priest or broadcast, but it was a copy of the Central Buddha. Because the woman did not get in, the appearance that the family approached Buddha was confirmed through the television, and there was a person who put the figure in the photograph. You can see many things like a museum around the main hall. Statues and Buddhist paintings were on display. There was a corner where there were no people at the Mamhamani temple where worshippers were constantly. While the golden color produced the glitz, the chic shades of indigo were calming.
Worth a visit, even if charged $1 to take photos. Interesting women have to kneel close to Buddha, while men pay to climb up and stick gold paper on the statue. Shops around the pagoda worth a few min... more »
