Indein Village, Taunggyi

4.7
#1 of 19 in Historic Sites in Shan State
Located on the western bank of Inle Lake, the hillside village of Indein Village offers many cultural landmarks and holy sites nearby. On the summit of the tallest hill, a pagoda shelters a Buddha idol, while hundreds of smaller ancient stupas overgrown with vegetation dot the landscape below. Feel the cool breeze and hear the temple bells ringing as you ascend towards the top for a view of the surrounding natural scenery. You can also visit the mysterious Indein creek, which has narrow twists and turns and a bamboo dam used to irrigate the rice paddies. Days can get very hot and exhausting, so carry extra water during your trek. Put Indein Village on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Taunggyi route planner .

  • Indein village was awesome. It's not very large and could be a quick 4 hour trip. I rented a boat through my hotel. If you only want to go to Indein (which I did) tell them when you book the boat and ...  more »
  • Everything has already been said about the Pagodenwald. This place is not to be missed. So here are a few additional tips. From the jetty you go directly over the bridge and if you are not standing at souvenir stalls, you should ignore the calls of those present there and go a few meters further and only then right. The calls should only lead you through the souvenir stalls. With the initial brick pagodas, one unfortunately also meets not exactly reserved cloth sellers. Also 500 Kyat are required for photos on the site. Furthermore, there are taxi drivers (mopeds) who want to take you to a nearby mountain to look up at the Pagodenwald. We didn't do that, 5000 Kyat were called for the first prize per person. On foot back and forth, 55 minutes were specified. Feeling it's less. The path to the mountain leads directly up from the upper left part of the Pagodenwald. For the Pagodenwald you can easily plan 1.5 to 2 hours.
