The highest waterfall on North Island, Wairere Falls tumbles 153 m (500 ft) over a two-step drop in Kaimai Range. The long walking trail toward the attraction first reaches a rest point at a platform overlooking a valley, where you can view the falls from afar. Continue along the path and make the climb to the top of the falls, where another platform provides a magnificent viewpoint at the mouth of the waterfall. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and avoid visiting if rain is expected, as the trail becomes muddy and difficult to navigate when wet. Wairere Falls Reviews
A steep track to the top but with patience very achievable. Even for the unfit, you can make it to the base of the waterfall which is still spectacular. The track up has been used for hundreds of year... more »
The climb is well worth it when you get up to the top to see the fantastic view. Would do again. Track pretty slippery- to be expected at this time of the year. Only wore sneekers. Definitely a must d... more »
Walk to the look out at the bottom of the falls is around 40 minutes which is reasonable with a large staircase close to midway. The second half is a bit steeper until you get to the top that you then walk along the too to the top of the waterfall.
Highest waterfalls of north island New Zealand .. definitely worth a hike all the way up. However it is a difficult walk from lookout point to the top of the waterfalls.
