  • NZ Residents Beware. This is a private track run as an enterprise. If you expect DOC you may be frustrated and might be disgusted by the attitude of the owners. On 13 Jan 2018 you will have to pay $40 to walk the private section of the track which is the only land access to the Cape. This is nearly on par with a water taxi from Paihia to the start of the DOC section at Deep Water Cove. Save your money and legs and take the taxi. Until fairness returns to the owners this track is off our Great Walks of NZ list. Too many wonderful tracks run by DOC at fair rates to bother being fleeced.
