Trip Planner: South Pacific / New Zealand / North Island / Bay of Plenty Region / Rotorua District / Rotorua / Government Gardens
Enjoy the verdant grounds and historical architecture at Government Gardens, one of the city's most prominent public parks. Built on land given to the colonial government by the indigenous Maori population, the gardens contain numerous patches of colorful flowers, exotic palm trees, and native carvings. Marvel at the Rotorua Museum, formerly a bath house, which takes center stage in the gardens. You'll immediately notice its intricate Tudor-style construction, featuring a timbered design, several wings, and multiple spires adorning the roof. After wandering the gardens' many points of interest, including memorials, geothermal springs, and mini golf courses, you can kick back at the cafe in front of the museum. Government Gardens Reviews
Well tended lawns and gardens and a lovely walk round the bowling green, the architecture is lovely to look at. more »

Amazing place to visit! The government house/museum is amazing to look at. You can go around at roam around at the gardens. There is a playground for young ones to play at, and a pool nearby in case you want to have a dip. There are small numerous thermal attractions in which you can see. It is in the city centre so you can't miss coming here!
The museum is closed because of concerns around the building being earthquake safe. A real pity since it is a magnificent building. There is no information on when it may open. The gardens around the building, especially the rose garden, are a visual and aesthetic treat and I would strongly recommend leisurely walks in the whole area!
