The Bergen Railway, Oslo

4.6
Passing through the heart of Norway's mountainous interior, The Bergen Railway links two of the country's primary cities and serves as one of Europe's most popular train journeys. Hop aboard this scenic rail line, which stretches 496 km (308 mi) between Oslo and Bergen, to get a glimpse of nature outside of Norway's urban areas. You'll travel on one of Europe's highest railways, passing at a height of 1,237 m (4,058 ft) over the Hardangervidda plateau. You can make the entire journey in about seven hours (depending on the weather). Along the way, you'll be treated to sweeping alpine views of lakes, streams, rugged hills, and possibly the area's reindeer herds. Get your tickets early, as spaces can fill up quickly. • Do you have almost 7 hours to travel by train? but it's worthwhile. snowy peaks, White Plains, frozen fjords (in the month of May!) the highest station at 1222 M. Impressive.

  • A Hurtigruten trip can be easily extended by mountain railway. For around 70 euros, Bergen on the single-track route is channelled from Bergen to Oslo for 6.5 hours via Myrdal (or vice versa) and sees lakes, waterfalls and still snow-covered bedges in May. The landscape is very varied and reminds a little of the Swiss Bernina Railway on the high alpine route. A must for nature lovers and Norwegian fans.
