View three actual Viking ships, the Soeberg, the Gokstad, and the Tune, and learn more about their history at Viking Ship Museum. The ships were built between 800 and 900, and were excavated in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Displays give information on how they were found and preserved. The Tune ship was the first Viking ship to be unearthed and remains the third best-preserved ship in the world. Also, see the artifacts that were buried with each ship, such as carts, sleds, cooking gear, and more. Be sure to climb up into the designated viewing areas that allow you to see each ship from a different perspective and fully appreciate their size. If you have your smartphone with you, you can scan the barcodes associated with the exhibits to receive more detailed information online. Small museum but very visual with authentic items and shops very well preserved for over 1000 years. One of the boats is over 1000 years and is 95% authentic. more »
Incredible Viking ships and artefacts. There is also a short film to watch. It’s pretty small so we were done in a couple of hours but there are several other museums nearby so suggest tying it in... more »
This is one of the most unique and amazing museums I’ve seen and it really draws you back a thousand years when Vikings were a major force. Impeccably well preserved artifacts with a heap amount of detail, well documented info to teach you the history and much more. It’s also nice to be able to do it all under two hours. This is something that kids will appreciate too. This museum is a Must if you’re going to Oslo.
A piece of Scandinavian history presented extremely well. Loved the displays and artifacts. The way it came together to paint a good picture of Viking history. Loved the short films, very informative. Gift shop not to over the top either.
