View three actual Viking ships, the Soeberg, the Gokstad, and the Tune, and learn more about their history at Viking Ship Museum. The ships were built between 800 and 900, and were excavated in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Displays give information on how they were found and preserved. The Tune ship was the first Viking ship to be unearthed and remains the third best-preserved ship in the world. Also, see the artifacts that were buried with each ship, such as carts, sleds, cooking gear, and more. Be sure to climb up into the designated viewing areas that allow you to see each ship from a different perspective and fully appreciate their size. If you have your smartphone with you, you can scan the barcodes associated with the exhibits to receive more detailed information online. This is one of my all-time favorite attractions, anywhere. I have been to it three times - twice last May & once this past June. My first visit last year was cut short since the Royals would be hostin... more »

Dit is op vandaag een betrekkelijk klein museum, waar alles draait rond de drie teruggevonden vikingschepen. Ik vond de schepen op zich indrukwekkend, maar op vandaag valt het bezoek wat mager uit als... more »
This is today a relatively small museum, where everything revolves around the three recovered Viking ships. I found the ships impressive in itself, but today the visit is a bit thin when you look at the peripheral information you find. By 2025, the museum would be extended to 3x as much space as it is today. This museum is definitely worth all the visit, but I think it can be the absolute top of Oslo, provided that it is a proper redesign and extension to the fashion museum standards.View original

I think this is the gem of Oslo. It is just incredible to see real Viking Ships. Definitely download the app with the audio guide as it is incredibly insightful and really helps guide you through the museum. It's not a very large museum, so you can see everything in an hour or two. Either way, it's small and mighty and my personal favorite museum in Oslo.

Very good If you arrive by bicycle. People are awesome and they even have a chess replica from the Viking chess set found on the Outer Hybrids in Northwest of Scotland! The museum can be full of people, but everybody gets amazed by the complete documentation of the process of recovering the ships used in burial occasions. And also is is located near several other museums. Definitely worth the money (around 10€) and the visit! Lots of souvenirs inside the ticket hall.
