Seema Malakaya Temple, Colombo

4.1
Rising elegantly from the rippling surface of Lake Beira, Seema Malakaya Temple spreads across three raised platforms in the lake, connected to each other and to the mainland by pontoon bridges. Observe the chaotic southern parts of Colombo on the lakeshore from the breezy benches, sitting among statues in the middle of water. Originally built in the late 19th century and redesigned in 1979, the temple offers space for meditation rather than worship and is dedicated for both Buddhists and Hindus. Note the structure's composition of collected spindles and handrails in wooden finishes, and its roof covered by blue tiles. • This place is beautiful regardless of whether it's day or night you visit. This destination is very popular for wedding pre-shoots and amongst tourists visiting the Colombo city. During the festival times, this location is well lit up and the night views are breathtaking.
  • It is Modest and pretty. Just as any temples in Sri Lanka, you will need to remove your shoes prior to entering the site. Needless to say, the ground is hot on a sunny day. It is a modest temple in a the middle of the lake.
