This botanical garden is very near to Kandy and it is a must visit place. The total area is quite large near about 140 acres. At the entry they provide you a map of the place which helps you in your selection. Great lawns with java fig trees give a beautiful look. Double coconut palms are great attraction. Huge old, tall bamboo trees are very unique. Lake with lilies and hanging bridge is another attraction. Palm avenues are photographer's delight. Small plant house with cacti is added attraction. Orchid house has captivating display. We can easily spend 3 to 4 hours here. Very well maintained . Must wear cap to avoid the droppings of the large number of bats.
It is one of the largest botanic gardens in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This garden was established in 1821 and is an area of 147 acres. It has become one of the most important tourist destinations with 2 million visitors per year and visitors to this garden are nature lovers. With visitors, especially on weekends and holidays, and contains a wonderful collection of plants and trees, numbering up to 4000 species where are located orchards and palms and the main points of attraction in the garden is the giant dragon tree in addition to the existence of different types of flowers The garden is decorated with a natural landscape and the garden opens to visitors every day from 07:30 to 17:00
One of the biggest and most famous botanical garden in Sri Lanka. Local and tourist attraction site. Big variety of plants available. Nice walking resting areas. Having several restaurant options too. Very nice to walk with kids as education and enjoying purpose with family. Main draw back is the many lovers make love in the park and sometimes it is difficult to walk with small kids as the scenery is not so nice.
Very nice garden... Most beautiful orchids ever seen. Massive bamboo forests. Cleanliness is beyond words. Clean washrooms in the garden. One can keep walking the full day to cover the garden area. Some trees are very very old and huge. One area which was really beautiful was the palm trees on either side of a beautiful road. Lovely flowers and show gardens. The cacti collection is also amazing.. The only thing we were sad was the entry fee, which was exorbitant i.e RS.750/-per person for Indians.
Beautifully garden with lots of plant species! There are also lots of wild life, including birds and bats!! It costs 1500lkr per person to get in which is quite expensive but you can spend many hours there. It’s easy to get there by bus from Kandy. The down side is that the toilets are a bit dirty and the staff at the garden try different ways to get tips from tourists.

Since most people visit Peradeniya on a day trip from Kandy, the suburb itself offers a limited choice of accommodations. Most of the lodging options lie along the highway that passes by the town, connecting Kandy with Colombo, but you also can find several inns and guesthouses near the university, in the botanical garden area, and in the surrounding verdant hills. Most of the choices suit budget travelers, while offering all the basic amenities for a comfortable stay.
