Located just next to Roche, this Museum designed by Botta makes you enter the mind of an artist absolutely brilliant and revolutionary. A must-have for everyone. But if Tinguely was against imposing monuments and structures because entrust the Museum a pop?

Given that I'm not an admirer of modern art, wandering the halls of this bizarre Museum, I only saw strange assemblages of objects that looked more put together by a junk dealer who by artists; tral'altro, having them equipped with automatism that li "animated" by pressing buttons with your feet, not made them further to understand. The machine-cloaca, cumbersome mechanism that simulates human digestion with smelly bowel movements, should cistituire the highlight of this site but to me and to most of those present raised only disgust and dismay. It is complemented with a serious of salt where it goes from drawings made by child of Mr. Delvoye (anything more than normal) to videos on his delusional reconstruction in the desert of "end of the world" with explosives of various types. If you want to see a true artist, changed Museum and go to that of cartons.

The Tinguely museum is easy to get to (it has its own bus stop) and takes about an hour to visit. The eponymous Swiss artist's kinetic sculptures, largely built from found items, are presented with fo...  more »

  • It's very nice if you like Tinguely. Child friendly.
  • If you know about a bit of Jean Tinguely, or even if you do not know about him at all, you will feel amazed when you see everything he created. Fact: one of his other water fountain is just outside Pompidou Center Paris. I didn't know it until I visited this museum. Such a small world!
  • Fun place, not the usual kind of art exhibition, very good presentation of the artwork of Tinguely, much of his artwork is moving, some interactive. Also suitable for children.
  • Seeing so many of Tinguely's works in a single place (quite a few of them interactive as well) is a great experience. It did feel a bit lacking in the amount of works that were on display at the time I visited.
  • Funny! If you buy paper, you can draw pictures with machine. It was absurd but fun experience. The person who helped me from the side was very kind, so I felt good.

Where to stay in Basel

Business-oriented Basel offers an overwhelming amount of mid-range hotels catering to its business clientele. The city fills up during conferences and events, so be sure to plan accordingly. There are a number of guesthouses and bed and breakfasts too, but they tend to be pretty pricey. You'll find a handful of budget-friendly hostels just south of the city core. Keep in mind that as you move toward the outskirts of town for affordable accommodation, proximity to the train stations will be key. The good news is that a number of the hotels include public transport passes with the cost of a room.
