The oldest in the city of Tainan, Hayashi Department Store features a memorable combination of traditional and modern. Ever since its opening in 1932, this building has been a favorite shopping and gathering place for citizens. It sustained severe damaged in World War II, but its most famous and important feature remained untouched--the first elevator in the country, which still works today. Here you can shop, have a meal, and see exhibits of historical memorabilia. Hayashi Department Store Reviews
more »A department store founded by Japanese people before the war. I couldn't go up to the roof last time, so I went there this time. The sunset and the rainbow looked very beautiful. It was a little expensive, but every floor was selling nice things.
more »It is a department store that has been renewed by modern Taiwanese forest department store before the war. The building itself is like the Showa Retro Museum. Did the Japanese go back in time to the Showa era? It might become feelings to say. Once inside, you will find stylish made-in Taiwanese goods. It's worth a stop-and-go visit. If you come to Tainan, please come by all means. Thank you to the Taiwanese people who saved me in this place.
This renovated department store is a new and worth spot for visitors to Tainan. There are many great choices of souvenirs on different floors. Don't forget to go to the rooftop. Although it's not the tallest building in Tainan anymore, you can still how it commanded the corner when it was first built. Besides, there're two more bonus points to see on the rooftop: a Japanese shrine, and several bases of anti-aircraft guns from the last century.
Very historical and unique mall to visit. Taking the old elevator is a must. The small temple at roof top is very nice. Stores inside carries unique handmade items.
