Surrounded by landscaped gardens and manicured walkways, Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall is dedicated to the country's former president and military leader. Better known as Jiang Zhongzheng in China, Chiang Kai-shek ruled China from Taiwan during the most of the "white terror" period from 1949 to 1987. A flight of 88 stairs--one for each year of Chiang's life--leads to the entrance of the white marble neo-classical palace. See a model of presidential office with a life-sized mannequin of Chiang and his two Cadillacs. The grandiose seated statue of the authoritarian leader in the main hall is always guarded by two soldiers, whose motionless postures make them look like statues coming alive every hour with the changing of the guard ceremony. Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Reviews

This site can easily be walked. If you have the time, check the schedule for changing of the guards and get there early as space fills up. Whole area can be visited between 1 - 2 hours or longer if... more »
I have not seen all the places in the world yet but this memorial can boast with being the largest collection of white shape masonry organized into a building that I have seen so far. It's massive yet quite pleasant to stroll through. The national museum and the national concert hall are close by and as impressive. I would recommend sunglasses if you have sensitive eyes and it is sunny day since the shine from the white color can be intense.
Just wow! A definite must go to spot! The architecture is next level amazing! Seen as this was built in the 70s! So impressive! The two other buildings opposite the memorial hall is just as stunning! If you like art, there would be exhibitions downstairs of the main memorial building! Be sure to check them out as they are always changing seasonally.
