Visit Wat Pho, one of the six main Buddhist temples in Thailand. Admire the 46 m (151 ft) long Buddha statue and its memorable pose, and explore the wide range of temple buildings displaying rich and intricate religious designs and a history dating back to the 16th century. Vital to the spiritual and architectural heritage of the city and the country at large, the site houses the largest collection of Buddha depictions in Thailand. Said to be the first public university in the nation, the temple also has an illustrious educational history and still runs courses on traditional Thai massage and medicine. Definitely a must see when in Bangkok. Cheaper and more pleasant than the grand palace nearby. Even though you bed to be decent dressed the Thais take ready and you can borrow skirts to wear when in the temple area. At present the Reclining Buddha is no longer undergoing repair and is fully visible (as opposed to my earlier visits in 1995 and 2001
We visited Wat Pho in the evening. The place is beautiful. We were able to view its beauty both during daylight and night. The temple makes you feel at peace and that everything else can stop for a while as you pray. The architecture is splendid. The beautiful architecture just leaves you awestruck. When the night falls and there are lights around, the beautiful work on the outer walls of the temple reflects the light and it feels like you are in middle of thousand twinkling stars.
