Kick off your visit on the 6th (Mon): appreciate the extensive heritage of Street of Kinosaki Onsen and then soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens. On the next day, examine the collection at Naomi Uemura Bokenkan, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Daijoji Temple, and then head outdoors with Takeno Coast.

Ghibli Museum Mitaka and National Astronomical Observatory of Japan will appeal to museum buffs. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Jindai-ji Temple and Chikurin Park. Traveling by car from Maihama to Mitaka takes an hour. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. In April, plan for daily highs up to 22°C, and evening lows to 16°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 12th (Sun) so you can catch the train to Tokyo.
