On the 11th (Wed), examine the collection at Auckland Museum, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Takapuna Beach, and then stroll through Browns Bay Beach.

Rotorua

Surrounded by lakes and featuring impressive areas of geothermal landscape, the city of Rotorua offers an otherwordly landscape and a welcoming, peaceful environment, with the culture of the native Maori people very much in the foreground.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Redwoods Treewalk and Papamoa Beach. Take a break from the city and head to Huka Falls Walkway and Fishing Charters & Tours. Change things up with a short trip to Mount Maunganui Base Track in Mount Maunganui (about 1h 10 min away). There's still lots to do: identify plant and animal life at Wingspan National Bird of Prey Centre, steep yourself in history at Government Gardens, relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour, and stroll through Okere Falls Track.

You can drive from Auckland to Rotorua in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or take a bus. When traveling from Auckland in March, plan for somewhat warmer days and a bit cooler nights in Rotorua: temperatures range from 26°C by day to 18°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 15th (Sun) early enough to travel to Christchurch.

Christchurch

Recovering from the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 was no easy task, but Christchurch has faced the challenges with aplomb.
Step out of the city life by going to Kayaking & Canoeing and Taylors Mistake - Awaroa / Godley Head Walk. Step off the beaten path and head to Riccarton House & Bush and Port Hills. When in Christchurch, make a side trip to see Hinewai Reserve in Akaroa, approximately Akaroa away. Next up on the itinerary: have some family-friendly fun at Velocity Karts and appreciate the history behind Chalice Sculpture.

Located in a UNESCO Dark Sky Reserve, Lake Tekapo offers evenings of stargazing and days of long walks.
Start off your visit on the 18th (Wed): see Off-Road Tours, then identify plant and animal life at Gem Alpaca Stud, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at The Church of the Good Shepherd, and finally contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Tekapo. Keep things going the next day: trek along Mount John Summit Circuit Track, look for all kinds of wild species at Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, and then view the masterpieces at Burkes Pass Gallery.
