Known nationally as an industrial heartland, Nagoya boasts a far more cosmopolitan and cultural core than its reputation would lead you to believe.
Change things up with these side-trips from Nagoya: Ise (Jingu Chokokan Museum, Ise Grand Shrine, &more), Nabana no Sato (in Kuwana) and Chubu Park (in Toin-cho). Kick off your visit on the 8th (Sun): steep yourself in history at Ichinomiyashi Bisai Museum of History And Folklore Bekkan, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Myokoji Temple, get engrossed in the history at Kaizu City Museum of History and Folklore, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Mt. Garyu Gyoukiji Temple, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Chiyobo Inari Shrine. On the next day, identify plant and animal life at Kamagatani, take some stellar pictures from Tenku no Yuhodo, go for a walk through Gifu o Machu Picchu Tengu no Chabatake, then indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Hongakuji Temple.

Drive from Nagoya to Hashima in an hour. In March in Hashima, expect temperatures between 13°C during the day and 7°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Mon) so you can travel to Kusatsu-machi.

Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 11th (Wed): get in on the family fun at Kusatsu Forest Stage, get engrossed in the history at Jukambo National Museum, then admire the sheer force of Osen Waterfall, and finally look for all kinds of wild species at Ike no Taira Shitsugen.
