Designated a World Heritage Site in 1995, Luang Prabang sits at the meeting point of two rivers and offers numerous opportunities for sailing, climbing, and exploring scenic caves and waterfalls.
Step out of Luang Prabang with an excursion to 100 Waterfalls in Nong Khiaw--about 52 minutes away. There's still lots to do: take in the awesome beauty at Mount Phousi, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Wat Mai Suwannaphumaham, take an in-depth tour of Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre, and get a dose of the wild on a nature and wildlife tour.

The riverside capital of Laos, Vientiane still has a relatively small urban area and a laid-back, relaxed feel to it.
When in Vientiane, make a side trip to see Nam Ngum Dam in Thalat, approximately Thalat away. There's still lots to do: don't miss a visit to Great Sacred Stupa (Pha That Luang), take in the spiritual surroundings of Wat Si Muang, pause for some photo ops at Patuxai, and look for gifts at Mai Savanh Lao.

Traveling by flight from Luang Prabang to Vientiane takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In September in Vientiane, expect temperatures between °C during the day and °C at night. On the 23rd (Mon), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel to Huay Xai.

Kick off your visit on the 24th (Tue): don't miss a visit to Wat Chomkao Manilat, look for all kinds of wild species at Gibbon Experience Office, and then make a trip to Project Kajsiab Laos.

Traveling by combination of flight and car from Vientiane to Huay Xai takes 6 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and car. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Tue) so you can travel to Pakse.

Resting at the meeting point of the Se Don and Mekong rivers, Pakse provides the ideal starting point from which to begin your discovery of southern Laos.
Change things up with these side-trips from Pakse: Si Phan Don (in Don Loppadi), Tad Pha Suam Waterfall (in Ba Chiang) and Champasak Town (Chez Maman, Wat Phu, &more). There's much more to do: explore the striking landscape at Bolaven Plateau, take in the dramatic scenery at Tad Yuang Waterfalls, snap pictures at Lao Nippon Bridge, and don't miss a visit to Chomphet Stone Sculpture Village and Temple Complex.
