Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Get some cultural insight at Tokyo National Museum and Edo-Tokyo Museum. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Ginza and Asakusa. Step out of Tokyo to go to Miura and see Moroiso Shores, which is approximately 1h 35 min away. There's still lots to do: wander the streets of Odaiba, ponder the world of politics at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, stop by Kimono Me, and get your game on at Owl cafe Akiba Fukurou.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Dotonbori. You'll explore and learn at Kyoto International Manga Museum and Todaiji Temple Cultural Center. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Muko City Cultural Museum (in Muko) and Nara Park (in Nara). The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, don't miss a visit to Gion, and examine the collection at Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts Fureaikan.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. Expect a daytime high around 39°C in August, and nighttime lows around 29°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Tue) so you can take a train to Hatsukaichi.

On the 18th (Wed), take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Misen, then step off the mainland to explore Miyajima, then enjoy the sand and surf at Mikasahama Beach, and finally stop by Miyajima Omotesando Shopping Street.

Getting from Kyoto to Hatsukaichi by train takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In August, daily temperatures in Hatsukaichi can reach 36°C, while at night they dip to 29°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Wed) to allow time to travel to Miyakojima.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Relax by the water at Yonaha Maehama Beach and Sunayama Beach. Get outdoors at Yabiji and Fishing Charters & Tours. There's lots more to do: discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Miyako Shrine, examine the collection at Yukishio Museum, and take in the views from Irabu Ohashi.

Getting from Hatsukaichi to Miyakojima by combination of train and flight takes about 5 hours. Other options: fly. In August, plan for daily highs up to 37°C, and evening lows to 31°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Sat) to allow time to travel to Onna-son.

Onna-son

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Start off your visit on the 22nd (Sun): Head underground at Blue Cave, then look for gifts at Onna Station Nakayukui Market, then enjoy the sand and surf at Manza Beach, and finally explore the striking landscape at Cape Manzamo. On the next day, stroll through Emerald Beach and then see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour.
