The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Head to Dotonbori and Fuuka-Kimonofor plenty of shopping. Get outdoors at Hakodateyama Ski Park and Arima Onsen. And it doesn't end there: step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, take a stroll through Gion, contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In February, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 49°F, while at night they dip to 35°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 25th (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Ise.

Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 27th (Thu): take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Yokoyama, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Takinomiya, and then get to know the fascinating history of Ise Shrine Geku.

Traveling by car from Kyoto to Ise takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Traveling from Kyoto in February, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit warmer in Ise, with lows of 43°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Thu) so you can travel to Miyakojima.

Start off your visit on the 28th (Fri): take in the spiritual surroundings of Miyako Shrine, enjoy the sand and surf at Sunayama Beach, and then kick back and relax at Yonaha Maehama Beach. On the 29th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: visit a coastal fixture at Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, don't miss a visit to East Henna Cape, and then see the vivid underwater world at Yabiji.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Ise to Miyakojima takes 5.5 hours. When traveling from Ise in February, plan for much hotter days and a bit warmer nights in Miyakojima: temperatures range from 69°F by day to 61°F at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sat) so you can travel to Ishigaki.
