The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Miho Museum and Kyoto Railway Museum. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kinkaku-ji. Step out of Kyoto to go to Miyazu and see Amanohashidate, which is approximately 2 hours away. And it doesn't end there: take a stroll through Gion, take an in-depth tour of Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design, contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and hunt for treasures at Nishiki Market Shopping District.

Venture out of the city with trips to Ikeda (Ichizo Kobayashi Memorial Museum & Cup Noodle Museum Osaka Ikeda) and Kobe (Kobe Fashion Museum & Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum). On the 7th (Tue), appreciate the history behind Todai-ji Temple, see the interesting displays at Todaiji Temple Cultural Center, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kofuku-ji Temple National Treasure Hall, thenbrowse the exhibits of Nara National Museum, thentake in the spiritual surroundings of Nigatsu-do Temple, and finally walk around Nara Park.

Traveling by car from Osaka to Nara takes an hour. Alternatively, you can take a train. Traveling from Osaka in May, plan for somewhat warmer nights in Nara, with lows around °C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Tue) so you can drive to Nagoya.
