Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Do your shopping at Ginza and Asakusa. Tokyo National Museum and Sensō-ji will appeal to history buffs. Venture out of the city with trips to Ghibli Museum Mitaka (in Mitaka) and The Hakone Open-Air Museum (in Hakone-machi). Next up on the itinerary: wander the streets of Odaiba, engage your brain at National Museum of Nature and Science, see the interesting displays at Edo-Tokyo Museum, and shop like a local with Takeshita Street.

Singapore, Singapore to Tokyo is an approximately 10.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of flight, taxi, and train. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Singapore to Tokyo due to the time zone difference. Expect cooler temperatures when traveling from Singapore in December; daily highs in Tokyo reach 14°C and lows reach 4°C. The resort town of Yamanouchi-machi has plenty of contrasting, but complementary things going for it.
Start off your visit on the 30th (Mon): get engrossed in the history at Jukambo National Museum, then explore the world behind art at Hokusai-kan, and then do a tasting at Obuse Winery. On the 31st (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: boost your wellbeing at a local thermal spa, identify plant and animal life at Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, and then examine the collection at Tanaka Honke Museum.

Traveling by combination of train and taxi from Tokyo to Yamanouchi-machi takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Tokyo in December, things will get a bit cooler in Yamanouchi-machi: highs are around 7°C and lows about 0°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 31st (Tue) early enough to go by car to Nagoya.

Known nationally as an industrial heartland, Nagoya boasts a far more cosmopolitan and cultural core than its reputation would lead you to believe.
Get some historical perspective at Nagoya Castle and Takeda Tei. Do some cultural sightseeing at Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology and Kobegama. Venture out of the city with trips to Henjoin Temple (in Chiryu) and Inuyama (The Museum Meiji-mura & Inuyama Castle). The adventure continues: explore the world behind art at Tokugawa Art Museum, see the interesting displays at Ama Shippoyaki Art Village, get engrossed in the history at Kitanagoya City Folk History Museum, and stroll through Cherry Trees along the Gojo River bank.

Traveling by car from Yamanouchi-machi to Nagoya takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Traveling from Yamanouchi-machi in December, plan for a bit warmer nights in Nagoya, with lows around 3°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Fri) to allow enough time to take a train to Kyoto.
