The commercial capital of the country, Colombo has added modern touches to its colonial-era core, creating an exciting and eclectic coastal city.
Get a sense of the local culture at Colombo National Museum and Gangaramaya (Vihara) Buddhist Temple. Visit Seema Malakaya Temple and St Lucia's Cathedral for their historical value. Explore Colombo's surroundings by going to Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya (in Boralesgamuwa) and Negombo Beach (in Negombo). And it doesn't end there: browse the different shops at Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct, hunt for treasures at Pettah, stop by Stone 'N' String, and stroll around Viharamahadevi Park.

The southernmost city on the island, Galle combines colonial-era history with a tropical feel and climate.
Get some historical perspective at Galle Fort and Saint Mary's Church. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Orchid House and Lihiniya Gems. Step out of Galle with an excursion to Dolphin & Whale Watching in Mirissa--about 42 minutes away. Next up on the itinerary: kick back and relax at Jungle Beach, stop by Chilli Dragon Spice, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Dutch Reformed Church.
