The fishing town of Mirissa has developed into a notable tourist destination.
Kick off your visit on the 1st (Thu): get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, then experience rural life at Handunugoda Tea Estate, and then meet the residents at Snake Farm. Although lacking in sights of its own, tourism in Habarana flourishes due to its proximity to cultural and natural attractions.
Visit Sigiriya and Golden Temple of Dambulla for their historical value. Polonnaruwa Vatadage and Sigiriya Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. When in Habarana, make a side trip to see Gal Vihara in Polonnaruwa, approximately Polonnaruwa away. Spend the 9th (Fri) exploring nature at Kaudulla National Park.
