Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.

Florianopolis, Brazil to Ishigaki is an approximately 34-hour flight. You can also do a combination of shuttle and flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 12 hours traveling from Florianopolis to Ishigaki. Traveling from Florianopolis in May, expect Ishigaki to be somewhat warmer, temps between 34°C and 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Tue) to allow time to ride a ferry to Iriomote-jima.

You can ride a ferry from Ishigaki to Iriomote-jima in an hour. In May, daytime highs in Iriomote-jima are 34°C, while nighttime lows are 28°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 7th (Thu) early enough to catch the ferry to Miyakojima.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
We've included these beaches for you: Toguchi no Hama and Yonaha Maehama Beach. Step off the beaten path and head to Yabiji and Scuba & Snorkeling. There's lots more to do: kick back and relax at Aragusuku Beach, snap pictures at Kurima Bridge, tour the pleasant surroundings at Sunayama Beach, and enjoy the sea views from Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse.

Ride a ferry from Iriomote-jima to Miyakojima in 4 hours. In May in Miyakojima, expect temperatures between 32°C during the day and 27°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Sun) to allow time to travel to Hiroshima.

JMSDF Kure Museum and Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims will appeal to museum buffs. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Daishoin Temple and Yamato Museum. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Hiroshima: Hatsukaichi (Itsukushima Shrine, Itsukushima Shrine Torii, & more). Traveling by combination of flight and train from Miyakojima to Hiroshima takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. Expect slightly colder temperatures when traveling from Miyakojima in May; daily highs in Hiroshima reach 28°C and lows reach 18°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Wed) early enough to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Toji and Kiyomizu-dera Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji will appeal to history buffs. Take a break from Kyoto with a short trip to Osaka Castle in Osaka, about 1h 10 min away. Next up on the itinerary: contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Chion-in Temple, and take a stroll through Gion.

You can take a train from Hiroshima to Kyoto in 2 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. In May, plan for daily highs up to 29°C, and evening lows to 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Sat) so you can take a train to Kanazawa.

Take a train from Kyoto to Kanazawa in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Kyoto in May, plan for a bit cooler days in Kanazawa, with highs around 26°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 15°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 19th (Tue) early enough to take a train to Tokyo.
