The riverside capital of Laos, Vientiane still has a relatively small urban area and a laid-back, relaxed feel to it.
Do your shopping at Mai Savanh Lao and Morning Market. Your inner history buff will appreciate Great Sacred Stupa (Pha That Luang) and Wat Ong Teu. Get out of town with these interesting Vientiane side-trips: Mekong River (in Tha Heua) and Nam Ngum Dam (in Thalat).
