Often referred to as the "Belly Button of Japan," the city of Shibukawa celebrates its status as the country's geographical center by hosting the Heso Matsuri, or Belly Button Festival.
Kick off your visit on the 19th (Thu): contemplate the long history of Tomioka Silk Mill and then examine the collection at Konnyaku Park. On the 20th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens, admire the sheer force of Fukiwarenotaki Falls, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Mizusawaji, and finally get to know the fascinating history of Ikaho Stone Steps.

Kick off your visit on the 21st (Sat): soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens, then take in the natural beauty of Yubatake, and then walk around Sainokawara Park. Keep things going the next day: hit the slopes at Kusatsu International Ski Place, then take in the pleasant sights at Onioshidashi Volcanic Park, and then make a trip to Japan's Highest National Highway Point.
